CRICKET: Pay cut for Pakistan T20 captain
Pakistan Twenty20 captain, Shahid Afridi, will be docked 25 per cent of his salary for four months for failing to reach a minimum level of fitness.
And 40-year-old Test and One-Day International skipper, Misbah-ul-Haq, will get a 10 per cent pay rise for improving his personal fitness.
The Pakistan Cricket Board conducted extensive physiological tests on 28 players earlier this year and the results were made available yesterday.
Umar Akmal, Khurram Manzoor, Sarfraz Ahmed, Mohammad Irfan and Sohaib Maqsood are among a dozen players whose monthly salaries will be cut by 25 per cent between now and the year end after they fell below the minimum fitness level.
By contrast, batsmen Shan Masood and Umar Amin were rewarded with pay rises of up to 17 point 5 per cent after becoming fitter, while batsman Ahmed Shehzad and fast bowler Bilawal Bhatti joined Misbah in getting a 10 per cent raise.
The Pakistan Cricket Board will now be reassessing players’ fitness every four months.
