KINGSTON, Jamaica:

Jamaica Labour Party Caretaker for St Thomas Eastern Delano Seiveright is calling the parish ground zero for the chikungunya Virus in Jamaica.

The caretaker first complained about the seemingly rapid spread of the virus in the parish three weeks ago, but was heavily criticised for politicising the issue.

Seiveright says the situation has gotten even worse in recent weeks.

He says as many as 60 per cent of persons in and around Morant Bay have been affected by chikungunya like symptoms.

He says the residents are growing impatient with the Health Ministry as they do not see any efforts being taken by the government to curb the spread of the mosquito borne disease.
