FOOTBALL: Hunt for second round spots in Manning Cup continue today

Published:Monday | October 6, 2014 | 10:11 PM

Three second round spots will be confirmed today when the urban-area ISSA/LIME Manning Cup football competition resumes.

The day will feature the final set of preliminary round matches in Groups B, C and F. There will be eight games.

The teams competing for the outstanding three spots in the second round are Excelsior and Vauxhall from Group B along with Hydel, Calabar and St Jago from Group F.

Vauxhall will visit already qualified Charlie Smith in a top-of-the-table Group B fixture at the Tony Spaulding Sports Complex.

Third place Vauxhall, which enter the day locked on 14 points with second place Excelsior, need a point to join Charlie Smith as the group’s representatives in the second round.

Excelsior have completed their fixture and can only advance if Vauxhall lose to Charlie Smith.

Over in Group F all the two spots are up for grab and the top three teams are only separated by three points.

Group leaders Hydel will visit fourth place St Catherine and need a point to qualify.

Second place Calabar will host second-from-the-bottom Eltham, while third place St Jago will travel to bottom place Penwood.

Over in Group C, Innswood and Denham Town have already qualified for the second round and they will face off in a top-of-the-table clash at Chedwin Park to decide the group winner.

All matches are scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
