FOOTBALL: First round of Manning Cup ends today

Published:Tuesday | October 7, 2014 | 1:53 PM

The last two spots in the second round of the urban-area ISSA/LIME Manning Cup schoolboy football competition could be decided today.

The day will feature the final set of matches in the preliminary round of competition.

And the schools best positioned to secure the two outstanding spots are Kingston College (KC) and Norman Manley.

KC will enter the day with a new coach following the sacking of Lenworth Hyde.

The experienced Hyde lost his job following KC’s humiliating 7-0 defeat against St George’s College on Saturday.

Hyde was employed in the summer to guide KC to their first title since 1986.

Track and field head coach Neil Harrison has been given the task to get KC into the second round.

KC, who are second in Group A, will host Waterford and need a draw to advance.

The North Street-based school also has an outstanding fixture.

Second place Norman Manley and St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS) will face off for the other spot.

STATHS will host the Group G match, but can only deny Norman Manley through goal difference.

The day features eight matches, all starting at 3:30 p.m.
