TENNIS: Rafael Nadal to play with appendix problem
Rafael Nadal is receiving treatment to control a problem with his appendix, but will compete at the Shanghai Masters this week.
Nadal says he is counting on antibiotics to control his appendicitis so he can get through the Shanghai Masters.
The second-ranked Nadal says he chose to try treatment with antibiotics rather than undergo surgery right away.
Nadal says he will talk with his doctors when he returns to Spain after the tournament about whether he will need to have the appendix removed.
The Spaniard is playing just his second tournament since returning from a two-month layoff due to a wrist injury.
Nadal plays his opening match tomorrow against countryman Feliciano Lopez.
