The Government has announced extended opening hours for health centres in the south east region of Jamaica, which has the most reported cases of chikungunya.

Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller says the new opening hours will be between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

The centres include: In St Thomas - Morant Bay and Seaforth; In Kingston and St Andrew – Hagley Park Olympic Gardens Duhaney Park Windward Road Maxfield Park.

And in St Catherine - St Jago Park, Greater Portmore and Linstead.

Simpson Miller says there are enough supplies of paracetamol available free of cost at public health facilities in addition to supplies at private entities.

She says there is therefore no need for any unreasonable increase in the price of the commodity.

The Prime Minister says while the government is mobilising it’s teams to help to identify and destroy mosquito breeding sites, citizens have a role to play.

She says Jamaicans should ensure they keep their surroundings free of debris and materials which serve as breeding sites for mosquitoes.
