Several communities in Portmore, St Catherine will get a major clean-up this week as part of the government’s plan to contain the spread of the chikungunya virus.

The clean-up is being organised by the Portmore Municipal Council, with assistance from the Public Health Department and the National Solid Waste Management Authority.

It is expected to start on Wednesday in Old Breaton and surrounding areas, before moving to other communities near Gregory Park on Thursday, ending on Friday in Gregory Park.

The clean-up will commence at 7 a.m. each day and residents are urged to put out old appliances and containers that contribute to mosquito breeding for collection and disposal.
