December 1 deadline for number portability licence applications
The Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) has set a December 1 deadline for entities to submit applications for a licence to provide number portability services.
Number portability allows users to shift telecoms networks while retaining their numbers.
The policy should have been implemented in May this year, but after several delays, the Government announced that the system will be launched on May 31 next year.
In a statement this afternoon, the OUR says it will assess the applications and make recommendations to the Energy Minister, Phillip Paulwell.
The OUR says the announcement of the successful applicant will be made in January.
The successful applicant will be known as the Number Portability Administrator and will be responsible for managing the entire system.
