CAPI says cost to deport Abu Bakr excessive

Lobby group, Citizens’ Action for Principles and Integrity (CAPI) has described as scandalous the US$36,000 price tag that it cost taxpayers to deport Yasin Abu Bakr.

CAPI co-convenor, Dennis Meadows, says the group believes that the sum is excessive.

Meadows says given the country’s tight fiscal space there can be no justifiable reason for the government to spend such a hefty sum on one individual.

He says the government should have explored other cost-effective options to have Abu Bakr returned to Trinidad.
