Police asked to improve on case screening

The Police have been asked to improve their screening of cases before laying charges and placing these matters before the courts.
Justice Minister Senator Mark Golding has indicated that when cases enter the court system prematurely they add to the already high backlog.
Senator Golding says in these instances investigations into the alleged offences are largely incomplete and are no way ready to go to trial.
Speaking in the Senate last Friday, the Justice Minister said the situation is being addressed as the government seeks to implement measures to reduce delays in dispensing justice.
The matter of outstanding case files have been a longstanding issue among members of justice system.
