OUR secures almost $9m in compensation for customers
The Office of Utilities Regulations (OUR) says it secured almost $9 million in credits and compensation for utility consumers between January 2014 and June 2014.
It says the compensation came from the National Water Commission (NWC), the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS), LIME and Digicel.
The amounts secured by the OUR on customers' behalf resulted from the reversal of previously billed charges or relevant credits being applied to their accounts.
The OUR says the customers who benefitted had filed appeals with the OUR after being dissatisfied with how the utility service providers addressed their complaints.
For the April to June period, the JPS was the company which had to settle 80 per cent of the compensation matters, with the NWC making 19 per cent and Digicel and LIME accounted for the other one per cent.
Meanwhile, from January to March, 90 per cent of the compensations were made by the JPS and three percent by the NWC.
