Forum Beach occupants warned to clear property by midnight

The Urban Development Corporation (UDC) is warning the occupiers of the Forum Beach in Portmore, St Catherine that they must remove all their belongings and temporary structures from the property by midnight.

The UDC says it will be clearing the beach of all the structures starting tomorrow and will not be responsible for any damage or loss of property.

According to the UDC, the demolition exercise is being carried out pursuant to a notice served on July 15.

The occupants of the informal Forum Fishing Village, including fisher-folk, commercial interests and residents, are being required to vacate the beach following the sale of the Forum Hotel in January.

The UDC sold the old Hotel for $350 million to Portmore Marine Developments Limited.

Forum is a 200-room hotel located on 6.7-3 hectares of land.

The property also has 57 self-contained two-bedroom cottages with carports.

The UDC has said the broad vision for redevelopment of the property includes its restoration as a hotel; refurbishing of the cottages as independent units; and upgrading of the fishing beach into a marina entertainment complex.
