JLP youth arm blasts flexi-rape comment, calls for sensitisation

Published:Saturday | November 1, 2014 | 11:15 PM

The youth arm of the Opposition Jamaica Labour Party has blasted Nicholson’s flexi-rape comment as grossly offensive to those women who continue to struggle with the emotional and physical effects of rape.

As a result, Young Jamaica wants Minister with responsibility for Gender Affairs Senator Sandra Falconer to immediately arrange sessions aimed at sensitising her male colleagues about the harm inflicted on victims of rape.

President of Young Jamaica Howard Chamberlain says Falconer should also use the sessions to urge her colleagues to set a positive example for young men on how to treat women.

Chamberlain says as a country we can no longer make jokes about sexual harassment and sexual violence.
