Heavy rains pound Haiti, at least six dead

Published:Wednesday | November 5, 2014 | 9:50 AM

At least six people were killed as heavy rains pounded northern and western sections of Haiti this week.

Head of the Departmental Coordinator Civil Protection Nadia Lochard says the rains were responsible for a wall collapsing on a house in Fontamara killing three children ages six to 10 years.

The children’s mother was also injured during the incident.

In the north, three other people were killed.

Haitian authorities say the extent of the damage in western areas has not yet been finalised, but initial reports say at least two thousand houses have been flooded and some destroyed.
