Published:Wednesday | November 5, 2014 | 11:23 PM

Voters in Central Westmoreland are to go to the polls in a by-election on December 1 to elect a new Member of Parliament.

The People's National Party's Dwayne Vaz is to be challenged by the Jamaica Labour Party's Fae Jacobs.

The Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) says in a letter to the Governor General today, Prime Minister Simpson Miller proposed that Nomination Day be Wednesday, November 12.

The OPM says the Prime Minister advised the Governor General to issue the necessary proclamation and notifications in accordance with the Representation of the People Act.

The bi-election became necessary following the death Central Westmoreland MP, Roger Clarke.
