TAJ seizes vehicle from downtown Kingston business to recover unpaid taxes

Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) says it has seized a motor vehicle belonging to Gordon & Company Surveys Limited to recover approximately $1 million in unpaid taxes.

The TAJ says the seizure was made during an operation at the company’s office in downtown Kingston yesterday.

It says the company has been delinquent in paying over outstanding General Consumption Tax and PAYE and has failed to comply with a court order issued in January last year.

The TAJ notes that this is the second time in recent times that it has seized assets to recover outstanding taxes.

It points out that last month personnel seized three vehicles from Shur Power Generators & Engine Manufacturing Company to recover outstanding payments of PAYE and Education Tax.

The TAJ says its Special Enforcement Team is continuing its drive to carry out operations across the island to recover outstanding amounts from delinquent taxpayers, where other enforcement actions have been ignored.

It says since the start of the fiscal year on April 1, the Special Enforcement Team has recovered more than $100 million in outstanding taxes.
