Emrit confirmed as T&T’s captain
All rounder Rayad Emrit has been confirmed as captain of the Trinidad & Tobago (T&T) Red Force team, replacing Denesh Ramdin, for the Professional Cricket League starting Friday.
The Trinidad & Tobago Cricket Board says it made a decision to accept the recommendation by selectors, to replace Ramdin with Emrit, during a board meeting held over the weekend.
Emrit will lead T&T during the four-day tournament starting with their first game against Barbados on Friday at the Queen’s Park Oval.
Emrit led T&T in the 2014 season earlier this year when the Red Force finished runners-up to Barbados in the four-day competition.
The issue of T&T captaincy erupted into controversy when Ramdin said he was being victimised after he was removed as captain during a meeting with the T&T Cricket Board last Monday.
Ramdin, who took over the T&T captaincy from Daren Ganga in 2011 and was appointed West Indies Test captain earlier this year, was part of the regional One-Day International squad that abandoned its tour of India last month.
The T&T Cricket Board condemned the players’ action during their recent Annual General Meeting.
The 13-man squad announced today includes Jason Mohammed as vice captain, Evin Lewis, Lendl Simmons, Yannick Ottley, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Denesh Ramdin, Akeal Hosein, Imran Khan, Shannon Gabriel, Marlon Richards, Bryan Charles and Yannic Cariah.
