Ambassador Rattray appointed chairman of UN security council reform body
Jamaica’s Ambassador Courtenay Rattray, has been appointed as chairman of the United Nations Intergovernmental Negotiations on Security Council reform.
The foreign affairs and foreign trade ministry says the appointment was announced yesterday.
Ambassador Rattray is the Permanent Representative of Jamaica to the UN.
Reform of the fifteen-member Security Council has been high on the agenda of the wider UN membership for more than 20 years.
The reform process also surrounds the question of the size of the permanent membership of the Council, which currently stands at five.
Also on the reform agenda are issues relating to the categories of membership and the veto power accorded to the permanent members.
