CRICKET: Australia Women beat West Indies

West Indies Women suffered a three-wicket defeat to Australia Women in the opening One-Day International of the ICC Women’s Championship in Sydney today.



Sent in to bat, the Caribbean side scored 240 for eight off its allotted 50 overs with Jamaican Stafanie Taylor leading the way with a brilliant 95.



Taylor was supported by Hayley Matthews, who hit 55 to secure a half-century on debut, while Deandra Dottin chipped in with 24.



Erin Osborne was the best bowler for Australia Women with three for 43.



And needing 241 for victory, Australia Women reached the victory target with three deliveries remaining.



They ended on 241 for seven off 49 point 3 overs with Meg Lanning scoring 95.



Nicole Bolton 55 and Ellyse Perry 53 supported with half centuries.



The Jamaican pair of Shanel Daley and Taylor picked up two wickets each.
