Police detectives in St Elizabeth are on the hunt for a group of armed men who carried out a series of robberies and shootings in Huntley Castle district, near New Market last night, killing 16-year-old Shemar Blackwood and injuring two other teens.

The injured teens have been hospitalised and the police say their condition is serious.

Blackwood lived in Pisgah district in St. Elizabeth.

The police say about 10:00 p.m., an elderly man was at a restaurant when several armed men approached him and allegedly robbed him of his licensed firearm.

The men then reportedly robbed other customers of cash and electronics.

The assailants left that location and went to a grocery store, where they are said to have robbed patrons of their valuables before opening fire and fleeing the scene.

The police were summoned and on their arrival three people, including Blackwood, were seen with gunshot wounds.

They were taken to hospital where Blackwood was pronounced dead.

The police are appealing to anyone who may have information that can assist them with their investigations to contact the Black River Police at 965-2232, Crime Stop at 311, Police 119 emergency number or the nearest Police Station.
