Three candidates have been nominated to contest the December 1 by-election in Central Westmoreland.

The candidates - Dwayne Vaz of the People's National Party, Ras Astor Black, of the Jamaica Alliance Movement and Faye Reid Jacobs of the Jamaica Labour Party - were nominated in Sav-la-mar today.

The bi-election became necessary following the death of Central Westmoreland MP, Roger Clarke in August.

From the camps of the candidates:

"I am confident of victory… as you know, this is a ganja parish and the people want a leader to stand up and protect their rights."

-Ras Astor Black

"We feel a wind of change blowing here in Central Westmoreland and we intend to

capitalise on it."

- Andrew Holness, JLP

"This is a constituency that has consistently been voting for the PNP … We have a young man who is equal to the task and we are sure that he will get the job done come election day."

Portia Simpson Miller - PNP
