CRICKET: Australia beat South Africa in opening ODI

Australia secured a 32-run victory over South Africa in the first One-Day International in Perth today.

Captain Michael Clarke was ruled out midway through the match after re-aggravating his hamstring, but stand-in skipper George Bailey scored 70 to Australia to 300 for eight.

David Warner scored 46, while his opening partner Aaron Finch hit 35. Matthew Wade also scored 35.

Vernon Philander was the best bowler for South Africa with four for 45 from his 10 allotted overs.

Pace bowler Nathan Coulter-Nile then took four wickets as South Africa were bowled out for 268 in 48 point 1 overs.

Captain AB de Villiers top scored for South Africa with 80, while middle-order batsman David Miller hit 65.

The team will face off again on November 16 for the second match in Perth.
