71st JLP conference on tomorrow, police warn patrons

The police say persons caught breaching any law at Sunday’s Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) conference will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.



The JLP will have it 71st annual conference at the National Area.



The police have issued an advisory, notifying and reminding delegates and supporters of various traffic changes and forbidden items.



The police say items such as knives, firearms, glass bottles, ice picks or any other items that can be used to cause serious harm or injury will not be allowed inside the National Arena.



And motorists are being reminded that all provisions of the Road Traffic Act will be strictly enforced.



There is a special warning to drivers not to allow passengers to hang from the doors of motor buses, sit on top of motor vehicles, or have any part of the body protruding from motor vehicles.



The police are also imploring drivers to obey the speed limit, and to desist from dangerous and careless driving on the nation’s roads this weekend.

Several traffic changes, which will take effect eight o’clock Sunday morning, have also been announced.

Arthur Wint Drive will be operated as a one-way, beginning at North Avenue to Roosevelt Avenue. In addition, the section of Arthur Wint Drive between the Bob Marley statue and the main entrance to the National Arena will be converted to a pedestrian-only zone.



Therefore, motorists travelling to the National Arena from the direction of Tom Redcam Avenue who wish to access the parking area at the top of Arthur Wint Drive must turn left onto Roosevelt Avenue, then right onto Stanton Terrace, then right onto Mountain View Avenue then make their way down Arthur Wint Drive.



Only vehicles conveying patrons will be allowed to turn from Mountain View Avenue onto Arthur Wint Drive. However, these vehicles will not be allowed to continue down Arthur Wint Drive, and must either park, or else make their way back onto Mountain View Avenue and out of the area.



Members of the general public, including JUTC buses, will continue straight along Mountain View Avenue and will not be allowed to turn onto Arthur Wint Drive.



Uniformed Police personnel will be posted along the routes to give direction and oversee the area, and motorists must obey all their instructions.



NO PARKING ZONE - No parking will be allowed along the following roads listed below:



Arthur Wint Drive



Roosevelt Avenue



Stanton Terrace



Mountain View Avenue between Nannyville – Old Hope Road



Latham Avenue



North Avenue





PARKING AREAS



VIP’s and officials will enter through gate E1 and park at the Indoors Sports Complex parking area.



The General Public will park in the National Stadium Car Park.





AFTER THE EVENT



All road closures will be removed to allow for the free movement of traffic from the stadium.



Arthur Wint Drive will be operated as one way from the stadium to Tom Redcam Avenue.



Roosevelt Avenue will be operated as one way from the stadium to Stanton Terrace.



Latham Avenue will be operated as one way from Roosevelt Avenue to Old Hope Road.



Vehicles occupying the upper section of the car park will use the upper section of Arthur Wint Drive to exit.
