Mandatory electronic filing of taxes for employers come 2015

Published:Wednesday | November 19, 2014 | 3:22 PM

Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) says as of January 1 next year, all employers will be required to electronically file their tax returns.

This means that all S02 returns filed as of the New Year are to be e-filed as tax returns filed manually will not be accepted.

TAJ says this new requirement follows the initial phasing in of e-filing requirement for employers with 20 or more employees, which was introduced on March 1.

The changes forms part of the continued effort of the Government to make it easier to do business, as employers will no longer have to visit Tax or National Housing Trust offices to file their returns.

Meanwhile, the Tax Administration says plans are being finalised to establish filing centres and work stations, where employers and other taxpayers may utilise computers for electronic filing and get assistance from trained personnel.

The agency says the filing centres will be set up at several locations ahead of the March 2015 filing period.

E-filings can be done by using the Tax Portal at jamaicatax.gov.jm.
