CAC Games: Losing start for Jamaica's female basketballers

Jamaica suffered a 58-54 defeat to the Dominican Republic in the opening Group B match of the Women’s Basketball Competition at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Veracruz, Mexico today.

Shenneika Smith scored a game-high 20 points for Jamaica.

Sasha Dixon supported with 13 while Simone Jackson had eight and Althea Byfield scored six points.

Yamel Abreu and Danilsa Andujar scored 12 points apiece for the Dominican Republic.

Jamaican will next play Cuba tomorrow and Trinidad and Tobago in their final preliminary round match on Friday.

Jamaica has so far won a medal.

Craig Brown secured the lone medal for Jamaica by winning silver in tae kwon do in the men’s under 87 kilos category.

Brown was beaten 18-2 by Cuban Rafael Alba in the gold medal match.
