A total of four illegal firearms and 19 rounds of ammunition have been seized by the police in Kingston, St Mary and St James in the last 24 hours.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Corporate Communications Unit says one man has been taken into custody in connection with two of the firearms.

However, his identity is being withheld pending further investigations.

In the first incident, the Port Maria Police report that a 9mm pistol and 9 rounds of ammunition were recovered after a man opened fire on a police team in the Bonny’s Gate area before escaping.

In the second incident, the police say a revolver containing three rounds of ammunition was found in a gutter in the McDonald Lane after residents reported seeing a man with a firearm in the area.

The Granville Police say an Intra-tech machine gun with six rounds of ammunition and a shotgun were seized and a man taken into custody during an operation in the Grant Hill area this morning.
