The former Speaker of the House of Assembly in St Lucia Matthew Roberts is now in hospital after he was found along a roadside near the capital with a stab wound to the neck.

The 60-year-old Roberts is said to be in stable condition.

The St Lucian Police have confirmed that they are now investigating a report that Roberts stopped his vehicle in an area three miles west of the capital this morning to offer someone a ride.

The police say he was later found in a pool of blood about a mile away.

It’s believed that the former Assembly Speaker was robbed and pushed out of the vehicle, which was later found abandoned.
