Four illegal guns, assorted ammo recovered
The police recovered four firearms, two of which were high-powered weapons, in separate incidents on the weekend.
The St James police yesterday seized a silver Intra-Tech sub-machine gun with six rounds of ammunition and one Escort shotgun in Grant Hill.
The police say the guns were recovered during an operation in the area about 5:30 yesterday morning. Six rounds of ammunition was also seized. One man has been arrested in relation to the find.
Meanwhile, a nine-millimetre Browning pistol and a .38 Smith and Wesson revolver along with a combined 12 rounds of ammunition were recovered in St Mary and St Andrew separately on Friday.
The St Mary police say the pistol was found during a joint police-military operation in Bonny's Gate about 6:30 on Friday morning. The cops say they attempted to search a man who was acting in a suspicious manner. However, the man pulled a firearm and shot at the police before escaping. The area was serached by the police and the nine-millimetre pistol and magazine containing nine rounds were found.
And the Hunts Bay police in St Andrew say about 11:35 a.m. Friday they were alerted to a section of McDonald Lane, Kingston where a man was allegedly seen with a gun. The police searched the area and the gun was found hidden in a gutter. No one was arrested in connection with the find.
