Cabinet approves contract for repairs of GC Foster track
A new running track will be installed at the GC Foster College of Physical Education and Sport for the new athletics season.
The state-run Sports Development Foundation will fund the project, which will cost the government more than US$1.5 million.
Information minister, Senator Sandrea Falconer made the announcement while speaking at a post-Cabinet press briefing this morning at Jamaica House.
The existing track has been in a state of disrepair for the past several years, even forcing the cancellation of a number of meets last season.
Senator Falconer says when the installation work is completed; the GC Foster track is expected to receive Level Two IAAF certification.
The track at GC Foster was laid in 1998 and since that time has hosted a large number of meets each season.
The GC Foster College of Physical Education and Sport is located in Spanish Town, St Catherine.
