St Ann gas station operator among two granted $5m bail

KINGSTON, Jamaica:

Justice Martin Gayle has granted bail in the sum of $5 million each to gas station operator Hansley Berry, of Runaway Bay, St Ann and D'Andra Gibbs, of Tower Isle, St Mary.

They are charged with conspiracy to defraud Cool Oasis Ltd of more than $100 million.

It is being alleged that Gibbs diverted a number of petrol deliveries to Berry's petrol station without billing him.

Hansley is charged with conspiracy and receiving stolen property.

Gibbs is charged with conspiracy, falsification of account and fraudulent conversion.

Justice Gayle said after reading the affidavit of attorney-at-law Oswest Senior Smith which was presented on behalf of the accused and hearing the bail application by attorney-at-law Bert Samuels, he was granting the two accused bail.

They are to report to police stations three times weekly.

The judge granted a curfew order for them to be at home from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

A stop order was also issued.

The judge ordered that the accused must not interfere with the witnesses

The bail application was made yesterday in chambers at the Supreme Court.
