Union representing TV station expects dismissed worker to be reinstated

Published:Friday | November 28, 2014 | 9:15 AM

The union representing restive workers at CVM Television says it expects the employee at the centre of a labour dispute with the company to be reinstated following a meeting today with the station's management.

The workers, represented by the National Workers Union (NWU) have been staging sit-ins in protest of Tuesday’s decision to dismiss the chief union delegate, Michelle Charles.

The NWU says the dismissal is unjustified and has been meeting with the management to have her reinstated.

NWU, vice-president Granville Valentine, says talks have been progressing smoothly and he hopes the issue will be resolved today.

Meanwhile, he says if the CVM management insists and the matter goes to the Industrial Disputes Tribunal, the union is confident it will be successful.
