Flood watch still in place for north eastern parishes

Published:Sunday | November 30, 2014 | 12:33 PM

A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect for low-lying and flood-prone areas on Jamaica's north eastern coast.

The areas under flood watch include: St Mary, Portland, St Thomas, Kingston, St Andrew and St Catherine. The watch remains in place until 5:00 this afternoon.

The Met Office says a stationary front east of Jamaica has been influencing weather conditions across the island. It says showers, which will be heavy at times, will continue to affect eastern parishes mainly during the afternoon and evening.

The Met Service says sea conditions will also deteriorate in the vicinity of showers and thunderstorms due to gusty winds and rough seas. Fishers and other marine interests should exercise caution during this period.

Persons in areas which are likely to be most affected are being advised to take precautionary measures by staying informed and to be ready for quick action if flooding is observed or if a warning is issued.
