Bog Walk Gorge reopens

Published:Sunday | November 30, 2014 | 8:04 PM

The National Works Agency (NWA) is reporting that the Bog Walk Gorge in St Catherine has now been cleared and was reopened to traffic at 6:00 p.m. today.

Meanwhile, Stephen Shaw, the manager of communication and customer services at the NWA, says work teams are at other locations working to reopen roadways to single lane or clearing all silt, landslips, fallen trees and other debris from the affected corridors.

These roadways include Sligoville where several land slippages along the section of the corridor between Bog Walk and Santa Maria reduced sections to single lane.

Shaw is advising motorists to proceed with caution along this section of the roadway.

The Bog Walk to Barry roadway between the Bog Walk High School and Wakesfield is also badly damaged and motorists using this alternative route are advised to proceed with extreme caution.

The Williamsfield to Glengoffe roadway is also impassable and the Mahogany Vale roadway located at the border of St Thomas and St Andrew is cut off.

The Chovey to Claremont roadway in St Mary is blocked, however, work teams have been dispatched to the area.

The NWA says it should be reopened to traffic by late evening.

The National Works Agency is advising motorists to proceed with care and obey posted warning signs as the roadways are slippery.
