Two inmates are now dead after they were stabbed while taking a shower this morning at the Savanna-la-Mar Police Station in Westmoreland.

The police say they were among three inmates who were attacked by men from a another cell about 7 a.m.

The deceased men have been identified as 28-year-old Mosiah Morgan of Red Ground in Negril and 20-year-old Romario Reid of Hermitage in Bethel Town, both in Westmoreland.

The police say the injured man has been admitted to hospital under police guard.

He is reportedly in serious condition.

Reports from the Savanna-la-Mar Police are that the inmates were being allowed to have their morning showers, when inmates from another cell attacked them.

The three inmates were reportedly stabbed during the fracas which developed.

The police say they quickly intervened and quelled the dispute before it escalated any further.

Three knives were allegedly seized in the aftermath of the incident.

The police say two accused men have been identified and are expected to be charged soon.

The Inspectorate of Constabulary has commenced a top-level investigation into the matter along with the Savanna-la-Mar Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).

This is the second reported incident of inmates being allegedly killed by other inmates in recent times.

In August, 31-year-old construction worker Mario Deane died as a result of injuries he sustained from a beating while in lock-up at the Barnett Street Police station in Montego Bay, St James.

Three cops and two civilians have been charged in relation to his death.
