Police Commissioner Dr. Carl Williams has ordered the Inspectorate of Constabulary to carry out a thorough investigation into this morning's killings of two inmates at the  Savanna la Mar Police lock-up in Westmoreland.

A third inmate was injured in the incident.‎

In a release this afternoon, Williams expressed regret at the deaths and injury.‎

“I am extremely concerned about the murder of any Jamaican, however the killing or death of anyone in the custody of the police is something that cannot be taken lightly,” said Williams.

The deceased -  Romario Reid and Mosiah Morgan  - as well as the injured inmate, were all on murder charges.

Reid and the injured man had been remanded by court.

Morgan had been offered bail but could not take up the offer.

‎The police say the two men who are accused of attacking the inmates have been identified and are being questioned by detectives from the Savanna la Mar Police, with a view of laying formal charges.
