Jamaica’s swimming sensation Alia Atkinson will attempt to break her own National Record when she contest the women’s 50-metre breaststroke final at the 2014 FINA World Short Course Swimming Championships in Doha today.

The 25-year-old Olympian just missed her National Record on yesterday’s opening day of action in Doha.

Atkinson clocked 28.99 seconds to finish second in the semi-finals and just missed her own National Record of 28.94 seconds.

Lithuanian teen sensation Ruta Meilutyte clocked a world leading 28.81 seconds to break her own meet record of 29.44 seconds.

Atkinson’s time was also well under the championship mark and under 29 seconds for the first time this season.

Earlier in the day, Atkinson recorded a faster time to get into the semi-finals.

She clocked a smooth 29.48 to enter the semi-finals with the fastest qualifying time.
