Nearly 600 illegal guns, over 9,000 rounds of ammo seized so far
The police say more than 577 illegal firearms and more than 9,100 rounds of ammunition have been seized since the start of the year.
The latest seizures took place in Westmoreland, Kingston and St Catherine on the weekend, where a total of three illegal guns were recovered.
The Savanna-la-Mar police seized a .38 Beretta pistol and several rounds of ammunition in Bethel Town in the parish this morning.
According to the police's communication unit the weapon, along with nine rounds of ammunition, was found wrapped in a pants about 6:00 this morning while lawmen were conducting a search of a premises.
Two men were arrested in connection with the find.
While in Denham Town in Kingston two men were also arrested on Saturday after they were found with an Askel .45 pistol. The police say the men were seen acting in a suspicious manner, while on patrol in the area about 10:45. They were accosted and when searched, the illegal gun was found.
Over in St Catherine, a Smith and Wesson revolver containing six rounds of ammunition was seized during a joint operation by the St Catherine South Operation Support Team and the Caribbean Search Centre in Rocky Hill.
One man was arrested for the find.
