The Ministry of Education is expressing sadness at the death of a student of the HEART Trust/NTA LEAP Centre in Portmore, St Catherine.

Phillip Murray was reportedly shot and killed last night at his house in Portmore.

In a statement this afternoon, the education ministry described the attack as tragic.

Education Minister Ronald Thwaites has expressed condolences to Murrays relatives and advised his classmates not to be discouraged by his death.

Thwaites notes that Murray had done the right thing by choosing to gain a certified skill and would want his classmates to complete their studies.

He is calling for the security forces to bring Murray's killers to justice.
