The Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) in the United States has now launched a probe into the hanging death of a black teenager in North Carolina that was previously ruled a suicide.

17-year-old Lennon Lacy was found hanging in a trailer park in Bladenboro, North Carolina, in August.

The state’s medical examiner initially ruled it a suicide based on reports from the police and the county coroner.

However, a spokesman for the FBI says the agency is reviewing the investigation into Lacy’s death at the request of the local federal prosecutor.

The teen’s mother, Claudia Lacy wrote an article in the UK Guardian newspaper claiming that the police failed to fully investigate her son's death.
