Environment Trust disappointed by breakwater construction approval

Published:Tuesday | December 16, 2014 | 12:19 PM

Local watchdog group Jamaica Environment Trust (JET) has reacted with disappointment to the decision of the Natural Resources Conservation Authority to approve the construction of two off-shore breakwater structures in the Long Bay area in Negril.

The JET's executive director Diana McCauly says the group is not ruling out legal action.

JET has insisted that the wrong approach was taken in respect of the breakwater project.

It says an Environmental Impact Assessment on the building of the breakwaters and public consultation of every demographic of Negril should have been consulted before the idea was brought to the implementation stage.
