Truckers warned to avoid St Mary roadway

The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising drivers of trucks and trailers to avoid the section of the North Coast Highway between Oracabessa and Port Maria.

Communication and customer services manager at the NWA, Stephen Shaw, says a section of roadway near Galina collapsed today during heavy rains and is not safe for large units.

He says small units, such as cars, can use the roadway.

In the meantime, Mr. Shaw says the Agency cannot advise of an alternative route at this time.

He says the usual alternative, which is the Free Hill main road, also has a breakaway and is therefore also unsafe for use by large unit.

Mr. Shaw says a technical team will visit the site tomorrow morning to see whether any remedial work can be undertaken.
