International dancehall entertainer Sean Paul has responded to death threats made against him apparently by Islamic extremists by thanking fans and supporters.

Sean Paul was threatened with death over his upcoming performance at a New Year's Eve concert in the Maldives at the invitation of the country's tourism ministry.

Writing on his Facebook page, the artiste says he thanks the people of the Maldives for inviting him to perform and for their support and concern regarding the concert and for his safety.

Sean Paul says while he has the utmost respect for religion and culture, which has been a major influence on his travels, he also supports freedom of expression for all people, regardless of their religious beliefs.
