Female T&T cop slapped with criminal charges
A female police officer in Trinidad and Tobago has been slapped with criminal charges after she and a male colleague were reportedly caught on video physically assaulting a man in a wheelchair.
The unnamed Special Reserve Officer has been charged with causing malicious damage and assault by beating following a ruling by Director of Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard last week.
Her male counterpart was scheduled to face an identification parade today.
The incident reportedly took place last weekend in the city of San Fernando.
A video posted on Facebook shows a plain clothes policeman slapping 46-year-old paraplegic Robbie Ramcharitar three times across the face and head.
It also shows a plain clothes police woman disengaging the brakes on Ramcharitar’s wheel chair and pushing it into the road.
Senior Superintendent Cecil Santana from the Southern Division has described the actions of the people in the video as a disgrace to the Police Service.
