New acting principal takes charge after controversy at central-Jamaica school
A new acting principal will today have the task of facing students at a central-Jamaica school for the first time since the institution was plunged into a scandal surrounding explicit photos of the previous acting principal.
The new acting principal formally takes up duties today after the vice-principal who had been acting in the position resigned last week.
The vice-principal resigned after alleged photos of him in homosexual acts were released on the Internet in late December.
It is understood that the photos were made public after the vice-principal's cell phone went missing.
The school's board met on Friday to determine his fate but received the letter of resignation which took effect on December 31.
Meanwhile, the board chairman said the meeting focused on how to treat with the matter when the school reopens today from the Christmas break.
He told The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre that a new acting principal will take over and steps will be taken to sensitise the school population regarding the issue.
The Education Ministry has reportedly indicated its willingness to provide counseling if that service is required.
