Curfews to be reduced in police operations - Bunting

Published:Tuesday | January 6, 2015 | 4:30 PM

National Security Minister, Peter Bunting, says curfews can now only be implemented in communities across Jamaica under what he calls exceptional circumstances.

He says in the last year, there has been a virtual elimination of curfews.

According to him, the number of curfews moved from thousands per year to about two per month last year.

Speaking on Cliff Hughes Online on Power 106FM, the security minister said the decision to reduce curfews in police operations represents an attempt to rebuild trust.

Bunting says the security ministry is also stepping up its community policing efforts.

He also argues that the police lack the resources to sustain curfews.
