Dismissed Morant Bay principal to appeal, says JTA

The Jamaica Teachers' Association (JTA) says Dr Dalton Shaw will be appealing his dismissal as principal of the Morant Bay High School in St Thomas.

Last month, the school board fired Shaw following an investigation into complaints about his performance.

JTA president, Doran Dixon, told The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre that Dr Shaw will be pursuing an appeal.

However, he declined to outline the grounds which will be argued.

Teachers at Morant Bay High school had submitted a letter to the board chairman, Rev Everald Galbraith last October, triggering the probe into the former principal’s performance.

They accused Shaw of making unilateral decisions, disregarding the input of senior members of the teaching staff, and attempting to erode the profile of Morant Bay High as a traditional school.

Shaw, who became principal during the last school year, previously served at the Mineral Heights Primary School in Clarendon.
