Section of Mandela Highway reduced to single-lane traffic

A section of the Mandela Highway has been reduced to single lane traffic because of an oil spill.

The National Works Agency (NWA) says a section of the left lane of the side of the carriageway leading towards the Portmore toll road has been closed to traffic in the vicinity of Caymanas Crossing.

It says material was placed on the roadway to absorb the oil that was spilled.

However, the agency explains that the material may contribute to a dust nuisance and the possibility of motorists developing a skid.

The NWA is advising motorists and pedestrians to approach this section of the roadway with extreme caution as it continues to monitor the situation while additional clean up continues.
