Published:Sunday | January 11, 2015 | 5:40 PM

Former president of the Jamaica Teachers Association (JTA), Byron Farqhuarson, has been elected to serve as the new secretary-general.

Farquharson replaces Dr Adolph Cameron, who served as the JTA's secretary-general for 12 years.

Farquharson's tenure will become effective February 1 when Patrick Smith, who had been acting in the post, goes off on retirement leave.

Farquhuarson is a 45-year veteran of education, serving as a former principal of the Mandeville Primary and Junior High School. He has also served as president of the JTA and the Caribbean Union of Teachers (CUT).
