Court denies extension of injunction against UWI

The Supreme Court has denied an application to extend the injunction barring the University of the West Indies (UWI) from removing Professor Brendon Bain as the Director of the Caribbean HIV/AIDS Training Network (CHART).

One of the attorneys for the UWI, Hugh Small, had argued that Bain’s two-year contract ended December last year.

The UWI fired the noted health professional last May after alleging that his constituents had lost confidence in him.

Professor Bain is suing the UWI for breach of contract, breach of constitutional rights and defamation.

The matter is currently being heard in the Supreme Court.
