Teen reportedly skips school, goes to river with friends, drowns

KINGSTON, Jamaica:

The body of a young girl was fished from the Morant River yesterday by police personnel in the vicinity of Springfield in the parish.




The fourteen year old girl is said to have been a student at high school in the parish.



Reports indicate that the teenager left school and went to the river with friends.



She reportedly got into difficulties.



An alarm was raised and members of the police responded.



They attempted to resuscitate the girl but she was pronounced dead at the scene.



The Morant Bay police are continuing their investigations into the incident.



The girl's identity has not been released.
